I salted the flesh side of all my hides. Placed them in 5 gallon buckets. Drained after a week and I am storing them in my garage over the winter. I rent so it's the best i can do.I'm getting hides...

Freezer also works great, or you can just flesh, stretch and dry them. Save the Cro-Magnons

After fleshing, a job of about fifteen minutes per skin. Just lay over a fence or whatever and let dry. Do put some kind of bug powder on them to keep bugs at bay. I use sevin dust. You can stretch...

I've stored wet salted hides for up to two years with no ill effect. They stink a little after that time, and they may have a pinkish/red salt loving bacteria growing on them in places, but I haven't...

That's true Mike. Mine either get frozen or dried but then I don't get mine all at once so I can usually keep up with the rate my collection barrel is being fed. I got two yesterday that set around...

im new at this so bear with me . when i go out and shoot my coons is it ok to just throw in the freezer after skinning or do i have to do something else?

That'll keep 'em for a good while. Just be sure to double-bag or wrap them up tight in something to keep air out so they won't freezer burn. I've kept raw deer hides in the freezer for several years...

Feather,I do the exact same thing. I also wrap the larger salted hides in a garbage bag individually and store in a rubbermaid brute trash can with a lid. If it gets warm for awhile drain the hides...
